YO GABBA GABBA!

Ok, so of course this post would come from me (Brad). My sweet Cailyn has been enjoying a new show that Grandma Bonnie has on her AppleTV called “Yo Gabba Gabba!” my little brother was the one that showed it to me, and I loved it. Of course it is kind of my style and one of the episodes has the Aquabats on it (a ska band I always listened to in high school). Any way if you’ve never seen it, here are the reasons you should:

There’s a Party in My Tummy

Yo Gabba Gabba Aquabats

Ok, ok, ok, so this show is kind of like the TV show “The Office” in the sense that you have to have an open mind, you have to give it some time and watch it past the first couple episodes, it’ll grow on you. Unless of course it doesn’t then it will probably be one of the most annoying things on the planet to you, and if that’s the case then that’s the case…

And finally, here is a little back stage pass…

Ok, one more story for you. A couple of weeks ago, Cailyn and I were at “Toys R Us” and we found the isle with all the Yo Gabba Gabba toys in it and Cailyn ran over to the display and was telling me all of the characters names:

Cailyn: “Oh daddy look, this is Toodee”
Daddy: “Cool Cailyn!”
Daddy: “Who is this?”
Cailyn: “That’s Brobee… and Foofa… and Muno… and Plex!”
Daddy (amazed): “Holy Cow Cailyn, you are SO
smart!”
Cailyn: “Daddy?
Daddy: “What Sweet Heart?”
Cailyn: “Where’s D.J. Lance Rock?”

Apparently they don’t have a D.J. Lance plush toy… But I just thought that was the funniest thing that day.

So give D.J. Lance Rock, and his friends a chance and you may or may not like it, but chances are if you have kids, they’ll LOVE IT!

How Geeky Are You?

I saw a link to this test on my cousin’s blog, and thought that I would try it out. Turns out, I’m pretty dang tootin’ geeky! The test classified me as a:

 super geek   (That’s at a 48.52071%)

Click the link and let me know how Geeky you are!

I (Anisha) just did this test today, November 6th, and I scored a 6.1144%.  It said I was a poser.  I think my non-geekiness helps dilute Brad’s geekiness. (Which is a REALLY good thing!)

Thumb Wars

It all started about a month and a half ago, about a week before we took a little trip down to St. George for my mom’s B-Day. My right thumb started to get a little red and sore down around the cuticle. I pretty much thought nothing of it, threw some neosporin and a bandaid on it and life went on as it normaly does.

after a couple more days, it started to puff a little, and it was secreting this yellow stuff that would dry out right there in the cuticle, so I just kept a bandaid on it and the neosporin just kept on drawing out the infection, but it seemed to be never ending.

Now as a side note, I have no clue what i ever did to it, it just started to get red and soon got infected, and pretty soon it was becoming more of a nusance than anything.  It was hurting like no other any time I would bump it, or use it.

Things didn’t look good for my poor little thumb and I started to worry even more about my thumb nail.  I could kind of pull down on the skin and it would expose this little arched piece of skin that was kind of protruding out from my nail bed.  I couldn’t tell if it was skin that was growing over top of my nail, or if it had come through the base of my nail and was growing up from underneath…  only time would tell.

So about a week and a half after St. George, I was at work and looking at my infected appendage, and I realized that it wasn’t getting any better.

It was a tuesday night, I got home and told Anisha that I thought that I Should go to the doctor so that night we packed up the kids and took off to the Orem/Lindon Instacare where we waited and waited. “Brad Hill” was finally the name called out as I arose and helped anisha pry the crying kids off of the toys, and we headed into the Dr.’s office.

She looked at my thumb moved it around a bit and had some big name for it, she said that the skin protruding out was some type of skin that is growing in reaction to the infection and that it was normal. She said it looked ok, and that her only concern was that the infection was growing under the skin and that she would check it out.

She also informend me that the only procedure there was for this kind of thing was to take a needle and poke it in there, move it around, and make sure that it was all separated, and to pop any puss pockets cause they wouldn’t drain on their own. So we went into the little procedure room, and Anisha sat there with the kids for a while and it just wasnt working so she took them out and got the stroller and took them for a little walk.

The nurse suddenly pulled out this needle that looked like one of those needles you inject seasoning into turkeys with. (it wasn’t really that big har har…) and she said, “OK we can try this with or without numbing it”  I was down for an adventure so I said let’s try without first.  She had me squeeze my thumb to try to get some puss out for a culture, and as I did that the pain was so excruciating I could hardly handle it.  She asked and I told her it was like a 8 or 9.5 on the pain scale, pretty unbearable, but we got the culture.

Then she started to stick the needle in, and as I layed down I sat right back up, because it was sending pain through my whole body!  I said, “uh… let’s numb it!”  She told me that this numbing shot would probably hurt really bad, and that she would have to put one into both sides of my thumb, I said ok and she started sticking me, and I could barely feel the sticks compared to the pain already felt in my thumb!

After the anisthetic set in she started pressing on my thumb and it was still killing, so she put two more shots in the sides of my thumb, this time a little closer to the problem. After pushing on my thumb a second time and finding out that it still didn’t quite make it to where it was hurting, she stuck the needle straight into the infection and that did the trick!

She proceeded to poke and separate and pop, and within 1 minute was done. She then wrapped my thumb up so that it looked like the balloon that it felt like with all the numbing she did to it, gave me some anti-biotics, and sent me on my way.

It’s been about 3 weeks since it all, and this is what my thumb looks like:

My Thumb

So my nail will evenutally fall off, but here are some good signs:

New Nail

You can see the new baby nail growing in! I’m not too excited to loose my nail, and all but there will probably be some cool pictures!

That is my story of Thumb Wars, I’ll keep you posted!

I Slack Therefore I Am

So after about an hour of aimless wandering on Facebook, reading up on some pals and such, i thought to my self, “don’t you have a lot of things to write about on your own blog?” and then I said to my self, “yes.”

To make a long story short, I tried to log into my blog and had forgotten the password it has been so long. it took me about 15 minutes to remember it, and now I am here writing! we’ll see how much I can get done today. I’ll try to make a bunch of posts, so it’s more interesting for everyone else that is reading.

Here we go!

It has sure been a load of fun since the last time I posted, we’ve been around the world and back (at least it feels like it.) I have been LOVING IT at my internship with W.W. Clyde, and have found that it is what I want to be doing! It’s coming up on the end of the internship, and job offers might be on their way, let’s hope so, cause I would really enjoy doing this as a career! (more will come in future posts, with details on what I actually do).

Anisha has been taking over most of the managing here at Grandview Manor, and being a mom of 3 kids (Gavin, Cailyn, and Bradley), while going to school full time and doing her summer internship 3 days a week with the Pleasant Grove Forrest Service, and Service has been what it is. She goes out and works on/manages trail crews tidying up and maintaining the many trails of Utah Co., and enjoys it, but it would be better if she got payed for it. Hopefully next summer she can do it again and will get compensated for it. My I tip my hat to her, she never ceases to amaze me with her energy, and her will to get things done, one of the many reasons I love her so dearly.

Cailyn is growing up too fast, she is the daughter of my dreams and such a delight to our family! She loves movies and singing along to any song that she hears. she is just so fun!

And Gavin is growing as well, he’s crawling, climbing, and exploring and he is just a cute kid!

So there’s the readers digest version of an update on our family, now let’s go to the details! this time we’ll try to keep up!

A Great Day!

Well yesterday was just an all around wonderful day! let me tell you about it…

It started out with us waking up from a not so good night of sleep but we couldn’t complain cause at least we slept! Saturdays are always great days around here cause, well, it’s Saturday!  We were open for our office hours from 8-10 am, meanwhile I washed the dishes, Nisha did the laundry, and we did our best to make Saturday a special day, the day you get ready for Sunday… We did get a little pooped after a few hours of cleaning and such so it wasn’t totally the most productive day as far as cleaning goes, but you know we got some done.

I posted my old GPS on eBay to try and make a few bucks back to put towards an iPhone (most likely) and was excited to see that almost instantly there were people watching the item and some even bidding. within a few hours the bid went from $0.99 to about 2 and a half bucks, not bad for just a couple hours, eh?

Then, out of nowhere, came an event that triggered a series of events that gave the day the start to being a Great Day, actually it wasn’t out of nowhere, it was out of the mail box.

To give a little background to some of these events, first off I’m an Apple Computers fan, I have had my eyes on an apple iPhone for quite some time now, and recently Anisha gave me the OK, that if I saved up, I could get one. I’ll prolly wait for the 2nd Gen one to come out (rumor is it’s coming begining of 2nd quarter).  So I’ve made some sales on eBay, and posted my GPS, (which at about this time was still at a buck and a half)

Second, I’ve interviewed with a company called W.W. Clyde for an internship position last Monday and heard back from them last Friday and went in for a 2nd interview, so I’ve been waiting all this week to hear back from them, and been pretty anxious about it all cause I really want to work for them…

(That’s probably enough background now –> back to the story). House cleaning; feeling pooped; posting GPS on eBay; I ran to the hardware store for some supplies.  DUN DUN DUN… the plot thickens.

While browsing the miter saws in the wonderful “TOOL WORLD” at Lowe’s, I received a call from Anisha saying that she had got the mail and that “IT” was there!!!  Now by “IT” I knew that it was the letter hearing back from W.W. Clyde about the internship, she read it to me where I was then informed that I had GOT THE INTERNSHIP!!! Sweet!!!  I was STOAKED to hear that news!  Then she said, “That’s not all, we’re not in our contract with T-Mobile anymore, the 2 years is up!” I thought that would never end, but there it was, the letter from them saying that they would give us a free month if we signed on for another year. YEAH RIGHT! So that’s good to know, even better cause then I wouldn’t “HAVE TO” unlock my iPhone when I got it, I could go with ATT instead (weather I will or not, now that’s a different story! hehe).  ”And that’s still not all!” she said, “You have a check from the school for $2000.00, you got the Smart Grant!!”  SWEET AGAIN!!!

So that was the exciting phone call from her that sparked the good day!  Upon arriving home, I read through the letter from W.W. Clyde about 38 times, looked over the letter from T-Mobile, and looked at the check, pretty cool stuff!  We had been thinking of buying a new computer soon, and so we decided that we wanted to go to the Apple store that night to pick one up. I called my parents and they said they were game for a trip to SLC, and we decided too that we were going to go get some grub.

Arriving at the Apple Store, they were waiting for us there with open arms, o’l YURI was the one tha helped us out, and got us all hooked up, it was great cause we got an extra 10% off of the RAM upgrade cause he rang us up for 2 10% offs then realized that he was only supposed to do one of those, and so he just gave us both of them, so that was a bonus in-and-of-itself!

We walked away from the glowing apple with a new little iMac.  We went with the 20-inch, 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2G Ram and 350G hard drive and we’re going to get a 1TB external cause it would be cheaper than upgrading the internal one.

My mom decided on the food establishment, which was a fine little place called, “Buca Di Beppo’s” right there in down town Salt Lake. we couldn’t find parking anywhere so we decided to fork over the $4 for the valet parking service, and we were a little uneasy about leaving our new investment in the car so we brought it along with us into the restaurant and it happily dinned with us.

That was a fun, Family-Style eating establishment that I would recommend to every one and anyone, so long as they take the time while they’re there to go and look at all the pictures that they have hanging all over, and to just get into the atmosphere. My mom told me a little about it, it’s an Italian restaurant, and she said that in Italy some people have small houses so when they have company over for dinner and such they will use their downstairs cause it’s a little more spacious, also that they will have people bring their own silverware to eat with cause money is an issue and not everyone has lots of silverware.

So, when you go to Buca Di Beppo’s, tell them that you have never been there before and they will take you through their kitchen where all the food is made, and then they will seat you.  There is a booth set up right there in the kitchen which I think would be pretty festive, you just sit there while everything is happening around you.  pretty fun.  We got sat up stairs, and sure enough, all the chairs at the tables are just mix’n'match chairs, and all the silverware doesn’t match, there are pictures EVERYWHERE, and the funniest ones are in the bathrooms. GREAT Food, and Good Fun! So with bellies full off we were to go home.

Arriving home, now the GPS is up to $78.00 and that much closer to an iPhone!  We cleared out the old computer and busted out the new “Mother Ship” iMac and got it all set up, and Anisha is jazzin’!  She’s happy to have a computer that she can call her own, and that won’t crash every time she tries to use it like the old refurb Dual G4 that we had. (it was a good computer that got us this far so we’re thankful for it but it is nice to have a new one).

So that’s that for the Great Day that we had, lots of exciting things happened, and now what’s on my mind is writing my acceptance letter for the internship, and we’re good to go!

down & out, i’m sick of typing!

My Beautiful Wife, My Beautiful Mother!!

Weird title, but I just have these two pictures that I really like that I wanted to post here for all to see.

My Wife Anisha:  I think that this is a Great picture of my Beautiful wife (and my son Gavin).  I tend to think highly of her and She is the most beautiful thing to me in this great world! I took this picture of her at one of her favorite restaurants ”Olive Garden” one time while we were waiting for our communal chicken alfredo pizza.

Anisha my love

And my mother (Bonnie): She had me, raised me, loves me, and forever will. And those feelings are mutual! I love my mom! We saw this great (half of a) sign one day at IKEA, so we had to take a picture. (Her friends call her “Bon”)

Bon

That’s the end.

Meu Mundo

Hey all, this is Brad. I’ve decided to add a category here to the blog, called “Meu Mundo” (Portugés for “my world”) This category will consist of the day to day thoughts and ideas that I have, things that I see and learn, and whatever else comes off the top of the head.  So check back, you can click on the “Categories” section here on the site and it will pull up everything in this world of thought. Thanks and have a nice day.

Signs of the Times

I don’t know what the “times” are right now, but that’s just the title that came to mind when I was posting this. With that all over with… We were driving along one night a while back, coming up 800 N. in Orem from the freeway and we saw this road construction sign:

Happy Holidays Sign

Okay, so that looks pretty normal right? Well okay, maybe there is a letter missing, but seems harmless:

Reduce Sign

Wait, Wait, Wait…. What are we reducing our speed for??

Lanes !@#$ Ahead

Haha, we had to stop and take a picture of this, it was pretty dang funny. As I was out taking pictures everyone else that was passing by had their cameras out taking pictures too. By the next day they had it fixed, but it was a pretty funny little mishap.

Wii’ve Found A Wii!!!

Well it’s been a long and monotonous search, but this morning the search ended! I had been calling all the stores on my list about every day and night to get the latest haps on Wii shipments, and always had the same results… (sorry we’re out of stock and we don’t know when the next shipment will be).

My personal favorite was saturday morning (Jan 12th) I called Best Buy in American Fork/Lehi area and the lady said “Thank you for calling Best Buy in American Fork where we are currently out of Wiis can I help you?” I laughed and told her that she had just answered my question. I asked her if she was expecting a shipment in soon, and she said “I sure hope so, ’cause it will make my greeting a heck of a lot shorter!” I laughed with her again and continued on my search, that day turned up nothing.

Sunday (1/13) we went and ate at my parents house and Curtis & Emilie (my little sister and brother-in-law) came over for dinner too. Curtis asked how the search was going, and I told him not so good. He told me that where ever they go, they do a check for Wiis for us, which I appreciated hearing. He asked if I had checked Game Crazy, I told him that I hadn’t. Curtis said that he got his Wii at the Game Crazy in Spanish Fork. So that sparked a little fire within me, I felt a little shadow of hope for the next day.

Monday the 14th arrived and I woke up at like 8:00 I called Game Crazy in S.F. at about 8:30 (they didn’t open till 10:00) and the dude answered! I asked if they were getting any Wiis in that day and he said that he was getting a shipment of 5 of them that morning, but he also said that there were already people outside waiting. Ok, so that one was pretty much out of the question, 5 Wiis and people already there waiting.

I called the Game Crazy in Orem and no one answered. I told Anisha the story and that I was going out to see if I could find a Wii. I thought I’d drive to the Game Crazy in Orem and see if there were less people waiting there if any at all. I pulled up at about 9:00 and there was no one there. I parked and saw the guys in there working so I tried to call, but still no answer so I thought that i’d risk it and wait it out just incase they did get a shipment, cause I’d be first in line!

9:30 came around and still now answer whenever I tried to call. I called S.F. back and asked the same questions, got the same answers, I asked how many cars were there and the dude said he couldn’t tell cause he couldn’t see them all. 9:50 I got an answer at Orem and they said that for sure they were not getting a shipment in that morning. POO!!!

So my next decision was to high-tail it to Spanish Fork, I only had 10 minutes until they opened and thought it would take me about 15 to get there from North Orem, so i hopped on the freeway and booked it to S.F. I pulled in at 10:05 and ran in to the store. There were dudes standing in there waiting for something and I counted 5, but I just thought i’d stick around to see what was going on. When the guy that works there got off the phone he asked me if there was anything he could do for me and I said “I’m just looking for a Nintendo Wii.”

He confirmed that they were getting 5 in that morning and said, “These other guys are here for the same thing I think” He then asked the guys in there with me if they were looking for Wiis too, they all said yes and that they just wanted one, just then one of the guys walked out… The guy in the store said, “Wait, what about him?” and one of the guys standing there said, “Oh, he’s my son. He’s with me and we only want one.”

I WAS THE 5TH PERSON THERE!!!! 5 Wiis and I was getting the 5th one!  Now we just needed to wait until the FedEx truck got there.

We waited ’til about 11:30 and the truck showed up, I purchased the console and a game I found that was used (Transformers) and was on my merry way home.  We are now proud owners of a Nintendo Wii, and we recommend it to every family out there!  It’s most fun and enjoyable, and that’s that.  Here’s some pictures to get your eyes going.

The Search for Wii Continues!

This week we have called every Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City, CostCo, Toys ‘R’ Us, F.Y.E., (just to name a few) within quick driving distance, just about every morning and/or night but to no avail. No Wiis anywhere! last monday I called Walmart and they said that they had 3 of them that they let out on Sunday morning @ 12:01 a.m. so that was a definite no go!  it seems that Nintendo is just lagging for some reason!  Infact, I believe that I have found the very reason that Nintendo is so behind on the supplying side of the supply and demand equation, and here it is:

No Wiis

So there ya have it! That’s probably not the real reason but it’s kind of funny to think about!

Cailyn Takes Flight

Well we were sitting around at my parent’s house one night and I was messing around with Cailyn and Kimball and I just started tossing her to each other.  It was the cutest thing! Cailyn was getting a kick out of it as you will see in the pictures below, and of course we were having just as much fun watching her giggle through the air.  Just one of those moments that we were glad we had a camera.

Wii’re In Search For Wii

Christmas has come and gone, and so has the new year. It seems like we are spending a lot of time at my (Brad) parents house, playing with the things that Santa left under their tree Christmas Morn’. No offense to the awesome pizza stone that I gave Nisha for Christmas, or the killer Stanley thermos that she gave me, but for some reason that AppleTV just looks really great on that new 42″ Plasma, and the newest addition, The Nintendo Wii, we just can’t seem to get those remotes out of our hands.

This has brought about a very strange anomaly, for once in my life my wife wants a piece of electronics as much (if not more than) I do! My parents got their Wii at Target on New Years Eve Day thanks to Emilie and Curtis’ find. Now Anisha and I have decided that Wii are going on a search for a Wii. The road may be rough so to speak cause there is a severe shortage of these little consoles from the manufacturers. However we are determined and (if you see one snatch it and call us!) we hope to find one before next Christmas! har har. We’ll see how it goes!

Cailyn-isms

Cailyn is Quite the little talker these days which is nice ’cause we can cut through all of the crying and get to what it is that she really wants a lot faster than before.  It’s fun seeing her develop and as a father I feel quite blessed that I have a job where I am so close to home (doing maintenance at the apartments where we live/manage) and can see my kids learn and grow almost as much as Anisha can.  Anyway along with the better communication skills comes her own little language that we kind of have to adapt to cause she can’t quite get all of the words right. We’ve made a list of a few of the “Funner” words that always bring a smile to our faces when she says them cause they are short from being perfect but they are better than perfect because she’s our little girl and we understand her.

  • Peaupe - Soup (Usually said while stirring ”soup” in her toy bowls)
  • Meu - Milk
  • Ite - Lite
  • Yap - Yup
  • Sayee - Sorry
  • Bok - Book
  • Emmie - Emilie
  • Gama - Grandma
  • Eak - Eric (The guy I work with is named Eric, she really likes him)
  • Tayo - Taylor (As in our friend Taylor Van Sickle she, likes him too. Every time he comes over he brings her a present).
  • Pakah - Grandpa (We don’t know where that came from cause she say’s everyone else’s name just fine)
  • I Help You - This means that she wants help, cause we always say “Can I Help You?” when she needs help, so when she needs help that’s what she says!
  • I Wah Hug - I want a hug
  • Wah Wah - You guest it…  Water!
  • Uh Saah, Uh Saah! - Said in a singing voice to the tune of, “A Sunbeam! A Sunbeam!”  (It’s the part from “Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam”;  A Sunbeam! A Sunbeam!, I guess that’s just the catchiest part of the song that sticks out to her.)
  • Iont - I Want (This comes in handy when we’re trying to figure out what she is saying cause we know she wants something)
  • Omenyit - Open It (Said when she finds something she’s not supposed to and she wants it open, ie. a sleeve of oreos)
  • Yaee - Candy (All she seems to be wanting, seeing and saying these days…  and she usually gets it cause we’re suckers!)

And that’s as much as we could think of now but I’m sure there will be more in the future so…  you got it… Stay tuned!!

So, we pretty much love IKEA!

We’ve been Big fans of IKEA ever since the first time we went there, it’s a grand store because it is for the most part pretty cheap, the quality of most of the furniture there could also be found at Wal-Mart or Target but the selection at IKEA is what is so cool, and also the design that they have there is more than you would find at our other Big Box Stores. All in all, we love going there, ’cause we do!

On a different, sort of connected-to-the-subject note, My parents gave us a high quality Mantle clock for Christmas and we wanted to get a fine bookcase or something to go in our living room to set it on (and to have more shelves for books and pictures).  So the day after Christmas we went to IKEA and picked out our bookcase and decided that we would come back and get it the next day after we got the Christmas tree down.

The next day came along and we called IKEA and they were sold out of the bookcase that we wanted but they said that they were getting a load in that night and they should get more of that style. We went back on Friday and sure enough they had it there.  We decided to walk through the whole store to get the IKEA experience, and to see if there was anything else we wanted.

It was a swifter walk through the IKEA maze that day cause we had been there the day before and it was just kind of a refresher.  We got to the bookcase section and found the one we had picked out and right next to it was another one that was the exact same style but bigger, and it wasn’t much more so we decided to get the bigger one.  We found some awesome little DVD rack deals that were only $4.99 so we got 3 of those for our DVDs and while walking through the lower level we found some Baskets and a shoe rack that we could put behind our door to… you guessed it, hold our shoes!

So it was a pretty fun time, we brought it all home and had an assembly party, putting all of our new purchases together.  I think that overall we’re feeling pretty dang elated about our purchases, apparently excited enough to be making an entry in the ol’ blog about it eh? Mostly we just wanted to show ya’ll how our new living room looks.  Below are some pictures for you to whoop up!

And the baskets, we got them to put in place of where the DVDs used to be, only there was one hold up…
Baskets

The basket was a little too tall to go in the space under the entertainment center because our Ent. center is bowing in the middle so we just pulled out the Saws-all and cut out a notch so it would fit under there!
Saws-all to fit

And that’s that!  Oh, and one more random thing that I got with the Home Depot gift card that my mother-in-law gave me is this fine fire-safe file.
Fire-Safe

Boy, I tell ya’ what!

All is GROOVY!

Well, Gavin lived through the Jaundice regime and is looking like a normal earthling, he only had to stay in the suitcase lights for about a week… (ha… only) and now we’re back into normal (yet exciting) life.  Cailyn wakes up just about every morning saying, “Beebe!  Beebe!” and always has to go see her little brother and give him a kiss.

She really is a good big sister. She also has her moments when she likes to terrorize Gavin by steeling his binky, or getting all up in his face.  Sometimes shell act like she is going to be really nice and give him a kiss or something but then she’ll just lunge her hand at his face and scratch the crap out of it, which Gavin really doesn’t appreciate.  But all in all, things are dandy.  Here’s some pictures!

We’re home now!

We came home from the hospital on Monday morning.  It is now Wednesday.  Yesterday I had to take Gavin back to the hospital to get his bilirubin levels checked again.  Well they had gone up drastically, so they had IHC deliver some bili lights to our house.  He has to stay under the lights at all times except when I feed him.  I took him back to the hospital this morning to get retested.  The level only went down 1 point.  They told us to take him back in on Friday to get him tested again.  Hopefully he’ll only have to stay under these lights for a couple more days.  He hates it.  He doesn’t sleep very good at night because of it…and I think you know what that means.  We’ll keep you posted.

Gavin Bradley Hill

HE’S HERE!!!!  It had been a long “road da’hoe” and he was a couple weeks early, but he’s healthy as a little horse. So here’s the story:

We had been to the hospital about 4 or 5 times before thursday, just for random things such as the 3 day stay for the dehydration, then there was a night that Nisha was having some freak chest pains that subsided a little after we got to the horsepiddle, and then a couple “scares” where thy just checked Anisha, made us walk around, then sent us home… Then Thursday (the 18th) came along… Nisha started feeling some contractions that day, and was feeling like something was going to happen that night. The contractions were steady, and 3-5 mins apart and the Dr. told us to go in to the hospital when that was happening, so we did.

Upon arrival they hooked anisha up to all the monitoring machines, and watched her for an hour or so, and during that time that they had us walk for like 45 mins because her cervix hadn’t changed. Now, the Orem Community Hospital isn’t the biggest hospital in the world so it get’s really old really quick walking in circles around the nursery and walking to the end of halls and turning around. After we were done walking they checked her and she had only changed to about a 4.5cm from the 4cm that she was at when we first got there, so they gave her some morphine to help ease the pains of her contractions and they sent us home, because she wasn’t far enough along for the Dr. to break her water. Yet another disappointing time where we got our hopes all up and came home with no baby. That gets pretty discouraging after the second or third time of having to do that, But we went home, both Anisha and I were able to rest that night which was well needed for us.

The next morning (Friday), Anisha was sure that it was “the day” because of the way she was feeling, it was mostly because the contractions were still steady, and she was just ‘feeling it.’ So she took me to school and I went to class and then went and took a test, meanwhile Anisha took Cailyn to my mom’s house, and went to the Rec. center and walked around on the track. She walked like 4 miles (slowly) on the track, and did 2 miles on the stair glider machine, then came and picked me up from school. I went out to work for a while on some apartments.

When I came home, Anisha said that she wanted to go to the hospital at 6 to (hopefully) have the baby, because her contractions were really picking up and starting to hurt real bad, she said that she was feeling different than she had felt before about it all. So 6:00 rolled around and we took off to the hospital and you could just feel the excitement in the air.  So many things were going through out heads, and this time we felt it was really it!! The nurses got her all hooked up to the monitors and they checked her, and she was still at a 4.5cm AAAAHHHHH!!! Noting had changed!!!! So our hopes and dreams seemed to have been bashed in with a baseball bat.

Nisha’s contractions were really starting to hurt her, and the nurse said that it was probably all of the walking that she did that day that was making her have these contractions, and that there was a possibility that she wasn’t even close to being in active labor. They asked if we wanted to stay there for the hour so they could monitor her to see if things would change, we agreed and so we stayed a while, and then Nisha just wanted to go home. The nurse came and checked her and still noting had changed except that the contractions had gotten more painful, so they gave her another dose of morphine to help numb the contractions, And once again we headed home. This time feeling more distraught and discouraged than ever before.

We decided to just leave Cailyn at her Grandma & Grandpa’s house for the night. We got in bed and tried to get some sleep but it didn’t seem that the morphine was even working this time. Anisha’s contractions started going about every 2 mins and on a pain scale of 1 to 10 she said they were about 12’s to 15’s. We waited about an hour just to see if they would let up, but they just seemed to get more and more intense.

So at about 10:30 I called the hospital back and talked to the nurse that had just sent us home, and told her that things were just getting worse and that Anisha couldn’t hardly bear the contractions and she said to come back in. Anisha told me that I would have to drive fast, and I told her that I could handle that, so at about 11:00 we hauled down State Street, and we pulled up at the hospital and they took Anisha in on a wheel chair cause she was kind of immobilized and having really intense contractions. The nurses got her all hooked up to the monitors (deja-vú) and checked her and she was at a 6!!! HOORAY!!!!!!!

This time they called Dr. Young for him to come to the hospital, because things were happening! They started to prep Nisha for labor, they put us in this awesome (huge) room, and the anesthesiologist came in and started Nisha’s Epidural. After he was done starting that, they came and checked her again and she had progressed to an 8!! Then within 45 mins she was at a 10 and ready to deliver, and her labor lasted about 45 more minutes and we had our little Gavin! Anisha did so awesome! Right after Gavin was delivered I looked at Nisha and she didn’t even look like she had just delivered a baby, she didn’t look the least bit flustered, just a little tired (she was beautiful)!

It was amazing how fast things went after we arrived at the hospital, I guess when you’re ready, you’re ready! No sooner, No Later! It seemed like the contractions she was having at home before we came were worse than the actual delivery at the hospital!

It’s hard to believe that we have another child and that he’s already here, it seems so unreal. It hasn’t all completely sunk in yet, we think it will probably take a while for it to become a reality, if you know what i’m saying.

Like I said in the beginning, it’s had been a long “road da’hoe” but it was all worth it! He is Healthy! Born 20-Oct-2007 at 3:24 a.m., 6 lbs. 14 oz. and 20 inches! the first 15 hours of life for him have been mostly sleeping, he’s opened his eyes and he just looks around with a real serious look on his face, but he’s as cute as a bug in a rug and we’re dang excited to have him in our family! Stay tuned…
